Area Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they added.
Officers then found numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the event," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for details.
An important political figure said the vandalism left him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
