Heartbreaking Update on UPS Accident: Death Toll Rises to 13

The number of lives lost due to the UPS cargo plane which ignited and crashed has risen to 13, according to official reports.

City Leader's Statement

Traveling to the Union’s vigil, I learned of a thirteenth victim that passed away as a consequence of the aircraft crash,” wrote the city mayor in a public communication. “My prayers is with the relatives, companions and peers of all who were taken in this recent calamity. We will get through this as one.”

Victims Named

A statement from the company identified the pilots on board the aircraft as Captain Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our hearts go out to each employee who has been impacted and all in our community area – supporting you and ensuring you receive the attention and resources you need is our focus,” the company’s message stated.

Investigation Updates

National authorities disclosed that the UPS cargo plane’s wing caught fire and an engine detached soon after liftoff from the airfield, causing the plane to plummet and erupt into a fireball.

The NTSB announced it is probing the jet’s upkeep logs, which was in the state for maintenance a period ahead of the incident.

Aircraft records indicated the jet was on the runway in the Texas city from early September to last week.

“We are cognizant that this jet was there in that city,” remarked an official on later, without a specific time frame. “We will look at every piece of repairs that was performed, including the Texas time, all the way to the date of the trip.”

Retrieval of Critical Evidence

The audio device and flight data recorder were recovered, and the power plant was located on the tarmac.

The devices – known as flight recorders – were constructed to survive collision damage and severe heat from fires, and they appeared to be in one piece when located among the remains. Authorities plan on examining information from the recorders.

Jet’s final recorded information displayed an height of that level and a rate of that speed before the accident.

Service Record

Per aviation authority records dated that date, a fissure on a part within the tank area needed maintenance.

The company ST Engineering, which stated it supplies aircraft servicing for UPS’s jet and operates a maintenance center in that city, declined to comment, but said it would work closely when relevant authorities contacted it.

Operations Continue

Meanwhile, UPS Worldport activities resumed last night with its express or evening process, spokesperson a representative said. The three tarmacs at the airport were likewise back in operation.

The UPS package handling facility in this location is the organization’s largest. The hub employs more than a large number of people in the area, manages 300 aircraft each day and processes over 400,000 packages per hour.

Community Response

A memorial was conducted on the night of 6 November by the area worker’s group, which acts for staff at the airfield, the organization’s largest shipping facility.

Worker representatives, which supports staff, commenced the gathering with a moment of silence at the evening hour, the approximate time of the accident before.

“This event was so abrupt, so unexpected,” the official spoke to the assembly of two hundred. “No one had a moment to bid farewell to any of those who we have said farewell to.”
